Marshall Point Light has been guiding ships at the entrance to Port Clyde Harbor since 1832. The original 20 foot tower was replaced in 1858, and stands 31 feet tall and is connected to shore by a long wooden walkway that has become one of the most photographed scenes on the Maine coast. The light was established to help ships navigate the busy fishing and shipping routes of the St. George River area.

Over the years, the station included a keeper’s house, barn, and oil house, several of which still stand. The lighthouse gained pop culture fame when it appeared in the 1994 film Forrest Gump. Automated in 1971, the light remains active today, and the property is owned by the Town of St. George and operated as a small museum.
